JUDO CLASSES IN BRENHAM, TX
Learn to keep your balance, throw with leverage instead of strength, and fall the right way.

01 · WHAT JUDO IS
THE STANDING HALF OF THE FIGHT.
Judo is a Japanese martial art founded by Jigoro Kano in 1882. The name means "the gentle way": instead of meeting force with force, you use your partner's balance and momentum to move them. It has been an Olympic sport since 1964.
In Judo you learn to grip, keep your posture, break your partner's balance and throw. Just as important, you learn to be thrown. Breakfalls teach your body to land the right way, a skill that pays off on ice, on a bike and on a playground.
Judo includes pins on the ground, but its focus is the throw. At Jud Jitsu, Judo is half of one program: the throw puts the fight on the ground, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches what to do once it's there. Every adult class teaches one throw and one ground position.
02 · WHAT YOU LEARN
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN JUDO.
Throws are broken into steps and drilled slow with a partner at your level. Nobody throws before they can fall.
01
Breakfalls
Falling safely forward, backward and to the side. It's the first skill every Judo student learns.
02
Grips and posture
Where to hold, how to stand, and how to stay balanced when someone pushes or pulls.
03
Foot sweeps
Timing-based trips that take a partner's foot out right as they step.
04
Hip throws
The classic Judo throw: turn in, load your partner on your hip, and take them over with leverage instead of strength.
05
Pins
Holding a partner down once they land. It's where Judo hands off to Jiu-Jitsu.

04 · WHY JUD JITSU
WHY JUDO + JIU-JITSU TOGETHER.
01
One complete system.
A real confrontation usually starts standing and can end up on the ground. You learn both halves.
02
One class, not two.
Both arts in the same class, not two programs on two different nights.
03
Falling first.
Falling safely is taught before throwing, to kids and adults alike.
04
Built for beginners.
Every class has a place for a first-timer.
05 · QUESTIONS
STRAIGHT ANSWERS.
Is Judo good for beginners?
Yes. Every Judo student starts with breakfalls, and throws are broken into steps and drilled slow with a partner at your level.
What's the difference between Judo and Jiu-Jitsu?
Judo focuses on throws and the standing game. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on the ground. Jiu-Jitsu grew out of Judo, which is why the two fit together so well. Here you learn both.
Do you have Judo-only classes?
No. Every class teaches Judo and Jiu-Jitsu together. Adults learn one throw and one ground position each session.
Is Judo good for self-defense?
Judo teaches you to stay on your feet, break a grip and take someone's balance, and how to land if you're the one who falls. Paired with Jiu-Jitsu for the ground, you practice both halves of a real confrontation. See self-defense classes.
Is Judo an Olympic sport?
Yes. Judo has been part of the Olympics since the 1964 Games in Tokyo.
How old do you have to be to start Judo?
Kids start at age 3 here, in separate 3–5 and 6+ classes. Adults start in the beginner class, at any fitness level.
What do I wear to my first Judo class?
A t-shirt and athletic pants. No shoes on the mat, and bring water. Gear comes later, and we'll talk you through it at your first visit.
